Thank you to Ms. Pamela Camingue

Our April membership meeting was rescheduled to May 5, 2008. Ms. Pamela Camingue presented on "Young Asian Americans' perceptions of cervical cancer and HPV." Her abstract on this study had been selected for presentation at the Intercultural Cancer Council's Biennial Symposium on Cancer, Minorities and the Medically Underserved in Washington, DC on April 4, 2008.
The research study, conducted in partnership with the AAHC and the Center for Research on Minority Health at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, revealed that many Filipino, Vietnamese, and Korean young adults lack information about cervical cancer and HPV, even though this population may be at greater risk for the disease. The results indicated that culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials and programs should be developed to increase awareness of cervical cancer and HPV and to improve access to cervical cancer screening.
