Meetings and Announcements

The Asian American Health Coalition will have their bi-monthly membership meeting on Monday, October 26th, at 6 pm.  It is our pleasure to have as our speaker our own Dr. Richard Andrews, M.D., Medical Director for the AAHC’s HOPE clinic.  Dr. Andrews’ presentation will be entitled, The Tip of the Iceberg.  He will share insights about the burden of disease in HOPE clinic’s Asian American population and suggest some individual-level and community-level responses.  After being with the HOPE clinic for more than a year, Dr. Andrews should have some interesting findings and recommendations for our community.  This information may guide the AAHC and other community based organizations in their efforts to address the health needs of the growing Asian population and the diverse communities in Southwest Houston.

Are you interested in helping establish a culturally and linguistically competent long term care facility for Asian elderly?
For several years, Asian and other community leaders have been discussing the need for a culturally and linguistically competent long term care facility (nursing home, assisted living, skilled nursing facility, etc) for Asian senior citizens in the Houston area. This project has been brought to the attention of the AAHC leadership once again, and we are planning to host a meeting of stakeholders and interested individuals in the very near future to discuss how to make this a reality. If you are interested in working on this project, please contact Dr. Beverly Gor at (832) 721-8838 or bjgor@comcast.net
